Finding a good name for your blog or service is not easy – especially if you would like to use the same name across multiple social platforms. Sometimes it is just impossible because someone else already registered name you would like to use. It is very annoying, but is there a way to avoid it?
Yes, there is a service out there called Namechk, which automatically checks availability of given name across 158 (yes, you got it right – 158) social sites as well as domains. To be honest this tool can serve as pretty good service discovery – I didn’t know half of websites listed there. If you think Namechk is missing a service, you can add one using tool at the bottom of the page – Suggest a site.
How to use it?
All you have to do is to enter the name in the search box and in few seconds you are presented with nice visual results – if name is take, service is shown as red box, if name is available, service is green. Pretty cool. Some queries (I guess everything except names) show domain availability as well. By default tool shows only 83 most popular services – to view all you have to click Show All underneath search box. There is also option to view results by name (by default they are organized by rank).
If you would like to process the output automatically via software, you can export the list as text file.
